If the CA Supreme Court does uphold the right of a majority to remove rights from a minority, will you be rooting for the court to uphold an amendment denying the rights of Mormons? They are a minority and the majority of CA residents don't agree with the mormons. Can we just get an amendment to restrict the rights of mormons? Seems fair to me and continued interference by the mormons on an issue that has NOTHING TO DO with them personally could spark a move for just such an amendment. Where do I sign up?

Wow, baby! Ken Starr is a rock star. And, judging by the justices' comments today, my faith in the court is holding fast. Let's just hope they don't upset the expectations.

Maybe I'm reading the results wrong, but it looks like "pressure" from ads or campaigns against same sex marriage had almost no impact at all on the way people voted on the issue. Which means that the LDS Church's "influence" on the passing of the initiative was also almost nil.

It seems that adult voter core beliefs and values aren't affected by the media or peer pressure as much as the media thinks, hopes, wants them to be. Something to smile about today!

I agree with Karron-my choice on the issue wasn't affected by external actions or reactions and my opinion would stay the same even if the fallout continues and/or gets worse. The protests and attacks DO make me less compassionate and tolerant than I might normally have been-but only towards those who are doing the protesting and attacking. I'm a big girl who realizes that the actions of a few do not necessarily reflect accurately on ALL.

JimD,

Yeah well, you're right there. I was suggesting it more as a general consent. But there's always that fly in the ointment.

And, frankly, I don’t think the gay marriage advocates would firmly commit to any of those conditions.

Well, and there's no central authority that can make compromises on behalf of the whole gay-rights movement. So any "commitment" would be meaningless.

Huh! Interesting take David. I need to think on it a bit, but I doubt anything would change my mind about Prop. 8. Marriage is between a man and a woman, anything else, is something else altogether.
